External Scholarships
If you are looking to apply to external scholarships, visit our Scholarship platform, ScholarshipUniverse to view opportunities available to you based on your matching questions and profile. You can also visit the Finding Non-SLCC Scholarships section on our homepage.
These scholarships are from outside organizations that the student has applied to separately and been granted funding for their educational pursuit. Checks are typically sent to the mailing address listed below. The SLCC Scholarship Team applies the funds based on any donor instructions accompanying the check.
If you are receiving educational reimbursement from your employer or government organization, this does not go through our office, visit Sponsors & Sponsored Students | SLCC instead.
FAQ
Funds should be sent to the following mailing address:
Salt Lake Community College
Dept. 587
P.O. Box 30015

We recommend reaching out to the donor or refer to any documentation that you received with your award notice for clarification. Students should send us instructions at scholarships@slcc.edu if made available to you.
You can email receipts or a screen capture of your textbooks in your cart showing the total due to scholarships@slcc.edu. We will apply the funds and ask the Cashier’s Office to issue you a check.
Restricted scholarships first. These can only be used for tuition and fees. If a restricted scholarship is worth more than your remaining eligible charges, the leftover amount is saved for a future semester, or returned to the donor if you do not continue attending.
Unrestricted scholarships next. These can be used for any educational expense, so they cover any charges still remaining. If funds are left after all your charges are paid, the remainder is refunded to you.
Please refer to the following scenarios:
Student receives one scholarship that is unrestricted and can be used for any educational expense and is worth $1000. They also have a 2nd scholarship that is worth $1750 and is restricted to tuition and fees.
Student’s tuition charges: $2216
Minus restricted scholarship: -$1750

Student’s tuition charges: $2600
Minus first award: -$2500
Minus portion of 2nd award: -$100
Total amount due: $0
*Remaining $900 from 2nd scholarship will be saved for a future semester or returned to the donor if student does not attend.
Possibly, but your tuition waiver may be reduced or canceled depending on the amount of your scholarship. Reach out to us at scholarships@slcc.edu to look at your specific case.
We recommend reaching out to the donor and getting the following information for the SLCC Scholarship Team: amount of check, check number, date of check, address it was sent to, and the name of donor. Send this information to scholarships@slcc.edu.
External scholarships appear on your dashboard/award offer under title that includes “General Designated Scholarship”. If you don’t see this on your dashboard/award offer, we recommend reaching out to us at scholarships@slcc.edu or following the instructions in previous question.
Our office cannot transfer funds to other schools, however, we can return the remaining funds to the donor. You can then contact donor directly and work with them to get the funds sent to your new institution. Once you have notified your donor, email us at scholarships@slcc.edu so we start the return of scholarship funds process.
No. SLCC will start returning unused funds in May/June as we can only retain funds until June 30th, which is the end of our fiscal year. We recommend you reach out to the donor directly and ask if they can re-issue funds for the next school year.
Yes, generally, you can receive a scholarship with other types of federal financial aid. However, any award you receive must fit into your assigned Federal Aid budget, or Cost of Attendance (COA). If there are conflicts, we may need to cancel or reduce other aid in order to fit your scholarship into your assigned budget. We will typically suggest reduction or cancellation of less beneficial aid such as student loans or federal work study.
You may also be able to submit a COA Appeal. If your educational expenses are higher than your assigned COA, an approved appeal may increase federal aid budget, which could allow the scholarship to be awarded without impacting other types of aid. Student must meet with a financial aid advisor regarding their circumstances and determine whether they may qualify.
