The program coordinator serves as a guide, mentor and advisor to each student. Each student is required to make contact with the program coordinator to begin planning the student's course of study. Guidance for application, placement, and enrollment will be provided.

The Advanced Manufacturing Apprentice AAS program is a selective admission program that provides students with a pathway from secondary education to full-time employment with career advancement through a three-year apprenticeship. Students begin the program in the fall of their senior year of high school and complete it after two years of study at SLCC.

The program also provides a path to earn an AAS degree and to prepare for transfer to Weber State University to complete a BS or MS degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

The program has three components: Core Courses, General Education Courses and Elective Courses. The Core Courses in advanced manufacturing are the foundation of the degree. The suggested General Education Courses provide skills for professional communication and behavior. The Elective Courses foster a collaboration between the student, their employer, and the program coordinator to design a program of study that meets the student’s interest and the needs of the employer.

The primary goal of the program is to help students develop the skills and knowledge to progress through their apprenticeship and become a fully trained technician with real-world experience.

The students will be paid employees of the host companies. The host companies will pay for SLCC tuition, books and fees.
