Program Details

This program is a continuation class to INTL 2240: International Studies. Participants will be in Mexico City visiting the Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia, walking through Chapultepec, seeing Chinampas en Xochimilco, visiting Teotihuacan, learning at El Templo Mayor, going to the Archivo Nacional de la Nación, and doing archival research.

This is a unique opportunity to see firsthand primary texts studied in prior courses. Participants will have classes at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México at Ciudad Universitaria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Non-billable amounts are the amount that students need to pay for themselves to participate in the program. The amounts shown on the table below are rough estimates on these items and each student will need to budget according to their individual needs.

Participants are required to purchase their own flights. The Engaged Learning Office will provide dates and flight information of faculty members so participants can plan accordingly.

Note: Participants are only required to purchase round trips to and from their program destination.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this program, all participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a current SLCC student
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Take and pass one of the following courses at SLCC with a C- or above:
    • INTL 2240: International Studies
    • HIST 1300: Colonial Latin American History
    • HIST 1310: Modern Latin American History
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a valid passport
  • Provide proof of ability to travel outside of the United States and return safely
  • Provide proof of health insurance
  • Participants are encouraged to have some Spanish proficiency.
Lastly, participants are required to attend all pre-departure orientation sessions/classes (happening spring semester) as well as all scheduled educational and cultural learning activities. Participants must complete all course requirements as assigned by the program faculty leader.

Courses

After being accepted into the program, participants will be eligible to register for INTL 2990: Experiencing Latin America (3 credits) for the Summer 2026 semester.

Cancellation & Withdraw

If you need to withdraw from a Study Abroad program, you may be refunded depending on how far in advance you are withdrawing. There are costs associated with each program. Some of these costs are non-refundable. Advanced payments on each student's behalf may not be reimbursed if a student withdraws or is unable to participate. Students are responsible for all non-refundable advanced payments. If a student is unable to participate for any reason, SLCC reserves the right to determine the amount of refund, if any.
