Basic Needs

Sometimes students face overwhelming challenges like trying to find housing, affordable food options, not having a laptop or internet access away from campus, or where to find emergency financial assistance on campus. These challenging experiences can affect academic success, increase stress, and anxiety that in turn can affect overall health and well-being. The goal of the SLCC Basic Needs Program is to offer students a supportive, trauma-informed environment where students can brainstorm available resources and make informed decisions based on their individual circumstances and needs.

Some areas of support include, but are not limited to:

  • Finding housing resources
  • Getting connected to food support
  • Navigating health and wellness options
  • Accessing technology
  • Navigating possible emergency financial support

Not sure where to start? That's okay, use the link below to schedule an appointment with the Basic Needs Coordinator (options include in-person, Zoom, call/text options)

Consultation with Basic Needs Coordinator

A non-judgmental, trauma-informed consultation with a Basic Needs Coordinator can help you access information, resources and support so you can make your best-informed decisions - before challenges escalate and become overwhelming. Together, we can identify resources that offer support on campus and/or out in the community.

Our focus is on helping with:

  • Personalized referrals to SLCC resources
  • Navigation and referrals to available community resources
  • Ongoing support by call/text/email and in-person consults as needed

Technology Access Program

A limited amount of Wi-Fi hotspots and laptops are available from the SLCC-Markosian Library as well as used laptops provided by Basic Needs Tech Access Program. Funding for devices is limited and often the demand is higher than the number of devices available. Priority distribution of these devices is based on student needs and not on a first come, first served basis.

If you have any other question, please reach out to Basic Needs Coordinator by email rene.zepeda@slcc.edu or call/text (801) 957-4015 or use link below to complete and submit the Tech Access application
