Arts, Communication, and Digital Media Area of Study Advising

Programs in the Arts, Communication, and Digital Media Area of Study are located in the School of Arts, Communication, and Media and Salt Lake Technical College. The following notations will help you identify which program is right for your goals.

AS-Associates of Science Degree

Complete your general education and pre-major courses before transferring to a four-year college or university.

AA-Associates of Arts

Similar to AS degree with the addition of a foreign language requirement

AAS- Associates of Applied Science Degree

Program is designed for entry-level positions in a career field. AAS degrees require more program-specific courses with limited general education requirements. Not designed for transfer to a four-year institution in most cases.

CP-Certificate of Proficiency

Refine or improve skills is a specific area. Ideal for those already working in their chosen career field.

CBE-Competency-based Education

CBE programs focus on mastery of competencies and/or course objectives. Course progress is self-directed and motivated students may be able to complete their program more quickly than with a traditional course structure. Offered through the School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties

The School of Arts, Communication, and Media also offers Skill Set Pathways as another short-term certificate option. definitions and more detailed program requirements are also available in the General Catalog.
