Concurrent Enrollment

Classroom Visits

Download The Annual Liaison Requirements Checklist

The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) identifies regular, in-person classroom visits as a core best practice for concurrent enrollment programs. Classroom visits serve two critical purposes for SLCC and its academic programs:

  1. They provide rich context for developing and improving working professional relationships between SLCC’s Academic Departments and CE Instructors.
  2. They provide Liaisons and CE Instructors with an opportunity to directly assess the health of the CE program.

Liaisons and CE Instructors will gain the greatest value from deliberate in-person visits to a teacher’s classroom that are scheduled in advance and that last the entire class period. Liaisons should plan on taking time before or after the class to talk to Instructors about their instruction methods, their concerns, their goals for their program, and their needs relative to accessing SLCC’s systems, using SLCC content, and generally complying with SLCC’s policies and procedures. Liaisons should consider creating a common rubric for visits and sharing it with CE Instructors prior to their visit in order to reduce the emotional complexity of the evaluation.

 Visit Frequency and Documentation

SLCC’s CE Program is structured to support Liaisons visiting each CE Instructor at least once a year for their first three years teaching a new Concurrent Enrollment course, then once every three years afterwards. Additional visits should be scheduled to resolve concerns about issues like program compliance or teacher instruction methods.

Liaisons should document their visit report within one week of the visit date using MyCE’s work report tool.

Many CE Instructors teach multiple sections of the same course. Multiple site visits to cover these sections are not necessary unless the instructor is out of compliance or would like additional support.
