Policy Development at SLCC

There are two types of policies developed at SLCC, outlined in the SLCC Policy Development Policy.

Policy (uppercase "P"):

  • College-wide
  • Follows formal development process
  • Uses the standard SLCC Policy Template
  • Posted on SLCC Policies webpage

policy (lowercase "p") – Department Rule:

  • Applies to a department or division only
  • Requires VP approval
  • Examples: guidelines, by-laws, standard operating procedures, department policies, etc.
  • Posted online within 30 days of VP approval

College-Wide Policy Development Roles

  • The policy originator is the person assigned to draft, develop, and maintain a policy.
  • The policy sponsor is a member of the Cabinet who supports and guides the policy through the approvals.
  • The policy office provides guidance, policy editing, project management, and shepherds the policy through the policy development process.
