Students learn to use the latest techniques and tools to ensure high reliability soldering in this two-part, hands-on program. The universal assembly and repair module covers all aspects of both single and double-sided through-hole circuit board technology, including: high reliability soldering, solder theory; assembly and rework techniques of wire connections; terminals; axial lead; DIPS; flat packs and multi leaded components.

The Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly and repair module stresses the safe installation and removal of surface-mount components, chip, SOTs, MELF, SOICs, QFPs and PLCC, using the latest equipment and techniques. Upon satisfactory completion of this program, students will be able to make "accept" or "reject" decisions for the appropriate class/classes of electronic assembly production, based upon the acceptability requirements of the IPC-A-610E standard.

Advising Notes

Stand-alone or PPT - All courses need to have their prerequisites confirmed by the Electronics department. Students must e-mail transcripts, etc., to department before registration/scheduling is approved.

COURSE/PROGRAM DELIVERY MODEL

This program is offered in a   Competency Based Education  (CBE) format. Students will be expected to invest a minimum of 24 hours per week for Full-time students (if using a Pell grant or VA funding), or a minimum of 12 hours per week for Part-time students, on completing coursework. Students will enroll in each course according to the established sequence in the catalog.

Students who only need one or more courses for purposes other than earning a certificate for a full program of study may enroll for   Personalized Professional Training (PPT) courses, available in select program areas.

Students receiving Federal Financial Aid or VA funding please contact your academic advisor for specific information regarding eligibility.
