Mission Statement

The Salt Lake Community College Honors Program is a diverse, inclusive community of engaged students, faculty, and staff dedicated to a transformative education in which we all learn from each other. It is open to students of any major whose educational goals include transfer to a 4-year college or university. The Honors Program community is designed to increase opportunities for underserved students and students with the as-yet-untapped potential to succeed in their education by leveraging high-impact practices (HIPs), reflective ePortfolios, honors seminars, small cohorts, and enrichment experiences.

Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Salt Lake Community College Honors Program believes that inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility are integral to fulfilling our mission for personalized, engaging, and transformative student-centered experiences. We believe in a culture where every person has strengths, perspectives, intersectional identities, and experiences that broaden and enrich our understanding of the world. Thus, we are committed to recruiting and retaining diverse honors students, faculty, and staff that reflect the communities we serve.

Application Deadlines

Application deadlines for incoming and current students to be admitted to the Honors Program:

  • Fall Semester: Deadline for priority review is May 31.
  • Spring Semester: Deadline for priority review is December 11.

Applicants are encouraged to apply on or before the application due date for full consideration. Applications submitted after these deadlines will still be considered on a space-available rolling basis.

Are there GPA requirements to apply?

There is no honors admission GPA requirement to apply, but students must keep in mind that to graduate with an SLCC degree with honors program designation, students must graduate with at least a 3.3 GPA. To articulate to University of Utah’s Honors College when transferring, students are required to have at least a 3.5 GPA.

How is the honors application reviewed?

The Honors Selection Committee carefully reviews each application holistically based on students who:

  • Clearly describes their academic and professional goals and aspirations.
  • Provide excellent descriptions of their interests in the Honors program and the benefits they will gain from participating.
  • Demonstrate a curious intellect, passion for learning, academic potential and motivation, and interest in engaging with the honors curriculum and the honors community of diverse students, staff, and faculty from various fields of study.
  • Has strengths, perspectives, intersectional identities, and experiences that contribute to an enriching learning environment. This can be demonstrated by leadership experiences, community engagement and service, creative pursuits, and research.
  • Is passionate and motivated to go above and beyond in their academic journey by engaging in community and campus events/lectures/workshops and pursuing High-Impact Practices (HIPs) like Undergraduate Research, Publication, Internship, ePortfolio, Service-Learning, and Study Abroad.

Honor Application

Look over these prompts and carefully formulate your responses offline in a word processor. Either copy and paste your answer or upload it to the application. We are looking for well-written, creative, and thoughtful replies in your application responses. Upon completion of your Honors Application, be sure to also apply for FAFSA and SLCC Scholarship Universe. The Honors Program is committed to finding financial support for all of its students, so students should complete FAFSA in order to open as many options for financial support as possible. When you are ready to submit your answers, copy and paste your responses into the field following each question. If you have multimedia answers or supplemental digital artifacts you would like to use (videos, webpages, blogs, etc.), please upload the item and/or share its URL.

Important: Students must be a current or incoming degree-seeking SLCC student in order to be eligible to apply to the Honors Program. Audit and current high school Concurrent Enrollment students are not eligible to apply; however, we do encourage graduating Concurrent Enrollment and high school students to apply to the Honors Program.

*If you have any questions about the application or experience technical difficulties when uploading your responses or multimedia files, please contact Kathy Tran-Peters at kathy.tran-peters@slcc.edu.
