Ana Carrillo
Peer Mentor
Hi! My name is Ana Carrillo I am from Maracaibo, Venezuela, and grew up in Bogota, Colombia, and I’m starting a new chapter within the honors program as a peer mentor. The honors program has allowed me to make school affordable through financial aid, which has been crucial to continuing my higher education studies. It has also allowed me to be involved with the community and in activities that will enable me to grow academically and personally. Peer mentors have been an important part of the program in my experience. They are always there to help other students succeed with their academic goals following the honors program values and expectations. As a peer mentor I want to help students within the program thrive and take as much advantage as possible of all the program has to offer, and for students who don’t know about the program to let them know there are always resources available to them. Other than the honors program, my hobbies include reading, writing poetry, social dancing, and going to the gym. My major is Writing Studies, and I hope to get a bachelor's degree when I transfer to a four-year institution. I aspire someday to publish an anthology of poems that I have been working on for a while now, and to guide people who are passionate about creative writing through their journey as a writer.
