Tuition Insurance

College is an investment — and sometimes, life gets in the way. That’s why Salt Lake Community College partners with GradGuard to offer optional tuition insurance to help protect your finances if you need to withdraw for a covered reason.

What Is Tuition Insurance?

Tuition Insurance can reiumburse up to 100% of your school expenses/payments including tuition, fees, and other costs like books and school supplies, if you must withdraw due to:

  • A serious illness or injury (e.g., mono, concussion, surgery)
  • A mental health condition (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicide attempt)
  • A chronic illness (e.g., diabetes, autoimmune disorder)
  • The death or involuntary job loss of a tuition payer

Coverage is provided through GradGuard, underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance.

Enrollment Deadlines

2025-2026 Deadlines

  • Fall 2025: September 16
  • Spring 2026: February 2
  • Summer 2026: June 1

Cost & Coverage

The premium is 2.6% of the coverage amount. Standard coverage levels:

Student Type Coverage Plan Cost
Resident Student $2,500 $65
Non-Resident Student $7,500 $195

Important Things to Know

  • Enrollment is optional — but you must opt in by the deadline and pay the premium in full at the time of enrollment.
  • Coverage is semester specific. You’ll need to purchase a new plan for each semester.
  • You must withdraw from all courses to file a claim.
  • SLCC will no longer provide refunds after the drop deadline. Tuition insurance is your only option for financial protection after that date.
  • A drop and withdrawal are not the same. Learn the difference here (as well as step-by-step instructions on how to complete a drop or withdrawal).
