What is a Guest Student?

Guest Students are defined as students who are enrolled and completing a degree or certificate program at another college or university (home institution) and wish to attend SLCC with the intention of transferring earned SLCC credits back to their home institution. The Guest Student program only applies to undergraduate courses, not Salt Lake Tech or Continuing Education courses.

Eligibility:

If you are a current degree or certificate seeking student at SLCC or have no previous college credit and are not currently a full-time student at another institution you do not qualify for the Guest Student program. If you are an international student, please see: International Student Services for additional requirements.

Before applying to SLCC as a Guest Student, please read the following:

Please talk with an advisor at your home institution to make sure you are taking courses that will transfer as you expect.

Prerequisites are not enforced at SLCC for Guest Students because we assume you have completed or are currently taking the required course at your home institution. Please check the college catalog to review the prerequisites for each course and submit a Guest Student Prerequisite Override Form for any classes you intend to take at SLCC. Overrides are not allowed for Nursing (NRSG) courses except NRSG 1230.

  • Guest students are required to submit both the admissions application and the Guest Student Prerequisite Override Form (required each semester) by the full-term admissions deadline for the semester you wish to attend classes at SLCC. As displayed in the Student Academic Calendar.
  • Guest Students are exempt from completing placement testing or New Student Orientation but may do so if they choose.
  • Guest Students are classified as non-degree seeking students and are ineligible to receive financial aid or veterans’ benefits at SLCC.
  • Guest Students are limited to 16 credits (cumulative) as a Guest Student. After registering for 16 credits (cumulative), you must apply to SLCC for a degree or certificate program as a transfer.
  • Guest students at SLCC pay regular SLCC tuition and fees as determined by their residency status.
  • Once the Prerequisite Override Request is processed you will be notified by Bruinmail and then are responsible for registering yourself through MySLCC during the priority registration dates listed on the Academic Calendar.
  • Guest Students seeking transfer credit from their home institution towards a SLCC degree or certificate must fully apply to SLCC as transfer students in a specific degree or certificate program and then complete a Request for Transfer Evaluation
  • ALL students, including Guest Students, must meet all the deadlines as listed on the SLCC Student Academic Calendar.

The admission and prerequisite override process take approximately 3 to 4 business days. During peak registration periods, processing may take longer.

  • Step 1: The prospective Guest Student should apply to SLCC and select the "Guest Student" type on the application, which will automatically consider them as a non-degree-seeking student.
  • Step 2: The prospective Guest Student should then submit the Guest Student Prerequisite Override form and list the class (or classes) they want to take at SLCC for which prerequisite courses completed at your home institution. Please note that you must complete the Guest Registration Prerequisite Override form for each semester you need prerequisite overrides.
  • Step 3: Watch your Bruinmail for confirmation that your overrides have been processed and you can proceed to register yourself using MySLCC.
