Student Leadership Conferences
Student Leadership Conferences happen in the Fall and Spring to give SLCC student leaders an opportunity to connect and expand their network and hone in on their leadership skills by participating in workshop presentations on various topics. Students practice building confidence and learn how to effectively communicate with staff, faculty, and administrators at Salt Lake Community College.
Leadership Conference Details
The Thayne Center Leadership Conference is offered each fall and spring semester. Each conference follows the same format, featuring a variety of breakout session tracks that allow students to personalize their experience. Participants can attend sessions that align with their interests and leadership goals while connecting with fellow student leaders from across campus.

Fall 2026 Conference, September 24th and 25th
Location: Student Event Center, STC 130, Taylorsville Campus
Time: Day 1, 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM. Day 2, 9:00 AM - 2:45 PM
Keynote
Archie Messersmith-Bunting is a dynamic speaker who challenges students to lead with authenticity, purpose, and courage. Through engaging storytelling and personal experience, Archie encourages student leaders to reflect on who they are, how they show up for others, and the impact they can make in their communities.
Drawing from his experiences working with students nationwide, Archie brings energy, vulnerability, and practical life lessons to conversations about leadership, relationships, personal growth, and navigating challenges. His approach inspires students to embrace their experiences, learn from adversity, and lead in ways that are genuine to who they are.
Archie earned his bachelor's degree from Samford University and a Master of Science in College & Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University.
